Black like me- By poet lavotion

Black like me

My understanding of loyalty is hard when the
Amount of melatonin in my veins makes up half my body
Yeah I got trust issues towards the ones who believe that i am effortlessly defeated
By cultural bias it’s a phenomenal thought a creative design of thinking
But they aint black like me.

I feather my fingers on the other side of the table
Chains wearing then from all the years it’s been
Orange jumpsuit seems harder to fit in
My slippers worn in
Torn from this interrogation
From his mouth spills modern day segregation
To him my face is beyond recognition
They have no understanding
Cuz they ain’t black like me

Hair shows a pattern of struggles for days
Problems don’t show no sign of age
She walks into the food stamp office office baring sage
To wear of the distant expressions of the. Coming days
She don’t want this but her family got to eat
Minimum wage don’t comfort her pockets
Blood runs dry down her tear sockets Son’s father hit Rock bottom
Full time shifts pressed a. Number on his back counting time in the holiday pin
Sold his soul to the white men
Social security numbers seems vague  to be a citizen in this world seems
Hardly free at all ..with all this mishaps and stereotypes
Hypnotized by the red and blue lights
Commerce seems low so she hits the dollar tree
This black is mine nobody’s black like me

16 years old and he’s forfillin a pattern
Lacing up his Jorden’s to go buy food for his mother
Making his rounds at the plasma center
Hoodie stretched up above his head
Directed by his black hands
Pants to big but that’s how u fit in
Around the jungle of has been
A generation of survival cut right down the middle
Longs walks can easily be cut short
Sun clocks out drinking when the moonshines
Mama said how you gonna be a men when yo father doing time
Steady living below the poverty line that’s how it’s always been
Romen noodles for breakfast again
But my black is mine they ain’t black like me
Somebody tell me that they have a deep understanding
Somebody pull me from this web of lies
They ain’t black like me my black is mine

Split up family’s so we can see them less
Mama had no babysitter so she left
Opened up a case on her from c.p.s
Never the less a good mother
They think black and white they don’t understand each other
Fill left out when u mixing colors
Hair thin as a twig and it’s because of her father
Hair thick as a wig and it’s because of her motha
Little girl watches TV thinking indifferent is inseditive
They ain’t black like her..her black is hers they ain’t black like her her black is mine
