Black as Night

"Black as night" is a terrible expression Black is the color which denotes nothingness The night is not black The night is full of color and light The night is full of wonder I gaze at the night sky and see shades of blue and purple Colors swirl together Back and forth, to and fro And in the swirling sky of blue and purple I see balls of light which illuminate my way They tell me that the light comes from decaying stars They tell me that what I see is an echo of what once I weep when they speak these words Though I do not cry because I am sad I cry because it is beautiful With their last breath, as they are dying The stars give to me a gift In their final moments the stars have lovingly bestowed me their light Those little balls of light which have nested within the blue and purple sky The night is not black Black is the color which denotes nothingness "Black as night" is a terrible expression
