BLACK TUESDAY
At the check in time,
The stage was set,
You removed our eyes and ears,
And made us helpless,
Against the fury of the night.
Then you raised your foul hands,
And gave the signal,
You released,
Les chiens de guerre,
The dogs of war,
Upon the young patriots.
The dogs chanted war cries,
As they turned their flag red,
The people sang their country's hymn,
As you shed their blood,
As you swung your axe,
You drew your wands,
Pronouncing the killing curse,
Upon the brave doves.
The night was filled,
With an air of atrocity,
As you remained dead,
In foolish slumber,
While the city bled,
You folded your arms,
And fattened your stomachs,
While many slept the sleep of death,
In cold blood,
And perished for a better nation.
The dead tell no tales,
But tonight,
Nigeria writes her own story,
Tonight the patriots' blood,
Has become the seed bed,
Of a glorious tomorrow,
Inna li-llahi wa-inna ilayhi Raji un,
Requiescat in pace.
And when the bloodied moon,
Gave way to the juvenile sun,
There there was,
Ghostly silence over all the land,
The play, concluded
Innocence, profaned
Sin, committed.
And then,
The Crocodile smiled...
