Black, Woman

I am black,

Woman

Rich brown paint veils a smooth silhouette

Coating my inner insecurities

I am black,

Woman

Society wants to alter

My reflection

I am black,

Woman

Staring back

At a cracked mirror

I am black,

Woman

Reflecting an unrecognizable image

I am black,

Woman

Searching for the truth

I am black,

Woman

Opening the door

To racism

In this bleached society

I am black,

Woman

Hidden under the surface

Waiting to be recognized

I am black,

Woman

Colorism plagues my home

I am black,

Woman

Light skin

Dark skin

Brown skin

All Skin

I am black,

Woman

Creating my own perceptions

I am black,

Woman

No longer criticized

Am I black,

Woman

Fortunate and Blessed

I am black,

Woman

Beautiful and serene
