Blackbird
You left me before I could speak.
You left me before I had a chance to hear the "why".
You left me before I knew you—before you knew me.
You left me with a white dove—when I was a blackbird.
You left me—a blackbird in a world full of white doves—alone.
I felt the pain of being a blackbird.
I felt the pride in being a blackbird.
I felt the pain of being your blackbird.
I felt no pride in being yours.
I was loved by the white dove.
I was loved by all the white doves.
I was loved for being a white dove.
I tried to lighten my feathers.
I tried to tame my wings.
I tried to be a white dove.
But,
I am a white dove.
I am a blackbird.
I am yours.
And once I learned that,
I flew.
