BLACK+NESS

All

I need

Is my black+ness;

Making a home out of my skin

Deep with+in

Proof of my ancestors’ reignin’

Kings and Queens prayin’

loud,

Got the earth shakin’

World wakin’

My black(n)ess.

Giving + me

A sense of ease

A sense of ident+ity

This blackness

This sweet ebony

Feeding me,

With self-worth and confidence

Sincerely,

                      -at times when.i.am.famished.
