Blank Worlds

A book lies before me Does it lie or does it lay Not sure, but it is there all the same Most walk right on by Not a care, not a glance Yet I remain here, alone in my trance I allow myself to remain idle Heart dancing, mind racing As I prod the possibilities in waiting For in a book the world is found The whole world, beautiful world Excited thoughts send my heart a twirl When I had my fill of wondering Reaching out, reaching down I grasped the world as a king would a crown With reverence I pried open the cover Time waiting, adventure knocking And I feel a fool as those pages look up mocking Pages, all blank is what I find White page, upon white page As my heart sinks and mind begins to rage What could this possibly mean What message, what statement Is lacking now through such utter displacement Such wonders I had expected So many hopes, so many dreams All fallen away in that pure white sheen I slam shut the book Angry, bemused To open it again, I should refuse Yet my mind never stops its race Wandering here, wondering there Stumbling across a thought so beautiful and bare Barren thoughts like barren pages Unvisited, undisturbed I begin to ponder, no longer even perturbed Blank thoughts are meant to manifest The world ahead, nothing behind Blank pages meant to be filled up to every bind Cautiously I reopened that book Cover lifted, page turned And each one held something new as my joy returned What new world is this? Blank pages, all in all They bring me every world, each to my pen's call
