Blazing Soul.
She stood on a tower and looked down below
A city of white houses hummed with life
Everywhere the same streets, the same trees
The same people with the same wings.
Posters plastered the walls
Slamming a command into every thought
WINGS MAY NOT BE USED TO FLY.
Only one soul had ever dared ask why.
Here she was, her heartbeat thundering
Taking a breath, stretching out her wings
Would you rather live or wait to die?
She took off running and launched into the sky.
Over the people her shadow passed
And they cried out and pointed
Archers were called for and aimed their bows
At the flying girl with the blazing soul.
As their arrows streamed, she dove down
To where another soul stood on a rooftop.
“Follow me,” she said. “Let's break away.
“Only takes one spark to light a blaze.”
From the street, a third watched them soar
Go on, said a whisper. Give it a try.
She joined others everywhere lifting their wings
Forgetting their fear, they chased down their dreams.
