Blind

How lovely is the Angel that guided me thru Hell Yet when I tell her so, she doesn't take it well. "I? I am nowhere near beautiful. You mock to say such things." As she whispers, a feather leaves her wings. "Oh, but you are beautiful! You move with so much grace And not a creature on my earth could hate your lovely face. You have shown me kindness I have seldom known Surely you don't know the meaning of alone!" More feathers fall. "I? I have always been alone. None of the others look my way How can I have a lovely face? I'm afraid I am heaven's sole disgrace! Never as brilliant as a scholar Nor as swift as a warrior Nor strong, nor talented My voice doesn't bring blissful tunes! I am no one, no good!" "But your voice brings to my mortal mind Visions of summer, love, sunshine! Your touch releases the fear, the pain! Your courage let me walk again!" The angel offers one last smile In a flurry of feathers, Gone Leaving me alone Without strength to go on.
