Blind Ones
What does it mean to be black. Is it to act like there no such thing as a library, pretend that “nigga” is the only word in the dictionary?Walk in a store just to mumble “any job opportunities” pants sagging like you just walked out a penitentiary and wonder why even the rookies don’t take you seriously?
Is it to idolize the “gang life” like it’s a good life to live, always needing to watch your back for as long as you live?Killing our own people but we like to forget that cops spilling black blood is what gave birth to the Crips,a brotherhood divided by the president since it prevented a disease known as Wellfair from afflicting our residents.
Is it to constantly brag about selling drugs, looking up to the rappers who lie about being thugs when half of them are ready to sweep their own people under the rug, the other half only do it to feed their children while there down on their luck, and the one thing it took to prevent it all was their father’s love.
Is it to be in a hurry to loose your innocence, grown enough to penetrate but when it comes to responsibilities,we barely scratch the surface. So it’s all fine since everyone’s doing it but when she gets pregnant, she realizes too late that it was never worth it.
What does it mean, please clarify because I’m confused,so I shouldn’t pursue an education because I’m a sell out if I do?We preach about encouraging blacks people to succeed in a system that’s rigged and unequal, only to uplift our people up for a minute just to give up and leave them hanging like we’re lynching
We need to redefine what it means to be a person of color, but it has to start with those of us in power. While we’re busy so judging white people, they know the power is in the government and instead of complaining,we should strive to be apart of it.Instead of demonizing pregnant teens and gangs,we should help show these lost souls a better way
We need to lead eachother because nobody else will, say what you will but I will say what nobody else will, if they didn’t see hope in us,King and Malcom would’ve never been killed. For those who feel blind,i can be your guide, just open your mind and leave this Oreo mentality behind, you will see the light before your eyes and understand that to thrive is what it truly means to be black
