Blinded

Up and up and up we went

You felt my excitement

The pounding of my heart

Eyes wide, marveling at the stars

You laughed because you didn’t understand

I said where I’m from you can’t ever see them

Even so, I felt as if I’d known them

Felt them

Engulfed by the energy of their presence

Saved by the hope they’d given in deadly darkness

I was sure they promised love

I knew them I knew them

All of the assurance I had ever needed had come from above

But I was wrong

Painfully wrong

Because up so high

Amongst all that light

I’d mistaken you for one
