Blink of an EyeBy:
Blink of an Eye
By: Erica Sieverding
Today’s the day you receive the news
Hopefully it doesn’t leave you lost and confused.
Eagerly awaiting as the doctors evaluate
You think of your life and instantly anticipate.
There are so many things you have not yet experienced
You have no time for any painful interference.
You have never gotten the opportunity to ski
Or most important, create a family.
You wait until you can’t wait any longer
The doctor comes in and tries to be stronger.
Your life on earth is coming to an end
The illness inside you is too hard to mend.
Tears roll down your face
While the doctor watches helplessly in disgrace.
He says, “I’m sorry there is nothing we can do,
If only we had some sort of clue.”
You walk out of the office in total dismay
If only one more chance would soon come your way.
One more chance is all you are asking for
Why should you have to battle this dreadful war?
Your life is like leaves in the middle of fall
Trickling faster and faster until all dissolve.
The blanket of leaves that cover the ground
Return to the earth as they were found.
Why does God do this if he loves us all?
Is it just a test to see who will fall?
So when your dreams come knocking at your back door
Never give up always reach for more.
Don’t ever put opportunities on standby
Life could be gone in the blink of an eye.
