Blood and Remembrance
Are you okay? Are you okay?
That seems to be the question of the day.
I hear it so much,
just let me sleep.
If only I was
who I use to be.
Now look at the new found lines on my face
with no beginning or end.
There’s a maturity in knowing your place.
Staying where you belong.
But what’s so wrong
with getting a little of what you want?
I’m tired of the games we think we’re supposed to play.
Because I’m living too slow.
While we’re dying to fast.
Guess this all goes to show
We have to make life last.
You’re doing this for all the wrong reasons
You’re dying to live so stop killing yourself.
Truth is you’re stuck here, my dear,
and it’s 80 years hard time, no way around it.
But the days, the days, are what we make it.
I know this to be true because
I am the author of this masterpiece.
So I’ll let you in on a little secret:
I like to seem distant
but it’s just you that I’m missing.
I want to go back to those days in 2008
when we were young but didn’t see it.
When we could do anything as long as we could dream it.
But life doesn’t always work out that way.
We get old ,
and we tire,
and we settle for a life we hate,
and you say we all have to grow up some day.
But, no I won’t.
So I’ll see through the dreams we had back then.
It’s harder now,
now that you’re not around.
Together but separate we’ll make tomorrow.
And we’ll meet up when the sun goes down.
