Bloom
White gloves tap a white fence,
A lamppost stands guard.
Flowers give their one gift to the world
And bloom.
White gloves tap the white fence,
Paint chips and cracks
The brick wall, ever true,
Stands.
White gloves tap the fading fence,
Dirt smears and stains,
Leaves crunch underfoot,
Only to please the listener.
Tainted gloves tap the fence,
The porch steps moan and sigh
The sickly smell sticks to the air and mouth
Its sweetness is only temporary.
Tainted gloves tap the stair railing,
The same scent following behind
Bags are already packed
I glance back as I leave.
White gloves tap a white fence,
A lamppost stands alone.
A flower gives its gift to the world
And blooms.
