Blooming beyond my roots

The mistakes in my family run deep Deeper than the roots that grew into my family tree Every twist and turn on each branch resembles every twist and turn to hide what lies beneath the bark So I’ve decided to seek out the truth to every leaf blown away Day after day, year after year I’ve been sowing my own Garden and spreading Truth Turns out it was actually their garden and all I have been doing was pulling weeds tending flowers that would never see daylight Don’t believe them when they say blood is thicker than water   It can be diluted I gave up on my own bloodline and called it a hobby Because who cares if you’re lying Who cares when Grandma is disappointed by her grandchildren wandering streets selling seeds to unprotected women Who cares when loud mouth aunties hush the truth about baby girl’s abortion Who cares when depression is a pesticide destroying all your daisies and sunflowers Next to the decomposing seeds of broken memories still trying to germinate Who cares when the only human contact you can get to is a family member 6 feet below my roots Roses can hurt you too, especially when you can’t see them grow Not all homes can be filled with a garden of blooming flowers Some wither and decay Hoping that their roots won't be dug up Tossed away, Forgotten, that their history won’t rot Spreading their roots close to home If history and home both start with "h" then maybe it might be the same concept With every twist and turn Each withered petal being blown away in hopes to twist and turn its roots deeper than it seems Day after day, year after year Roots of unforgettable mistakes have sprouted in my garden A weed has sprouted in my family's garden of lies This time, I'll let the truth grow Even weeds can be beautiful
