Blowing Milkweed Seeds in the Meadow

At first glance

Life seems innocent

Then tit for tat

Changes all that

Wondering

I would wander

Over vast rolling

Hills of fresh green grass

Blowing milkweed seeds

In the meadow

Collecting lively caterpillars

Along the way

Soon to blossom

Into fluttery butterflies

Almost unaware of

Of the possible danger

Of Peg Leg

And the Tramps

Now it seemed a myth

But I had seen Peg Leg

Once around our house

Which my mother dismissed

As farfetched

But I had seen their tin shack

In the meadow

I was only five or six

And my mother let me roam free

I think about that today

With all the danger that’s around

And I now wonder

Are we able to roam free

Blowing milkweed seeds

In the Meadow?
