Blues of an Observant Citizen
As if I can't stand the pain
Of the everyday oppressor,
You look down on me with eyes that say
That you are so much better.
If it won't for the pressure put on me
I may feel somewhat worthy.
With a fighting chance, I’m shot down
When I’m standing tall you push me to the ground.
I'm your favorite source of amusement.
I just can’t win for losing,
Yet through the shame
I can see who the enemy truly is:
It's this society
And all the pain it brings.
18 and at war,
All I know is struggle.
18 and at war,
My life's in constant trouble.
18 and at war,
I stand on broken legs.
18 and at war,
My mind's a worried mess.
It's my job to play the fool again,
To bite my tongue and put up with the abuse.
To say no sir, yes ma'am.
Nod my head on cue.
I'm so sick of being man-handled
And force fed your beliefs.
All you do is label me,
Saying I’ll be like everyone else.
I just wanna be myself.
18 and at war,
I no longer know myself.
18 and at war,
No one can help me now.
18 and at war,
The walls are closing in.
18 and at war,
This world will be my end.
If I die on the battlefield,
Will they even know my name?
Just another casualty
Of society's designer hurt and shame.
Do I deserve it?
Is it worth it?
Am I living with this shame on purpose?
