Body of Life

When I wake everyday in the morning I think of everything I need to get accomplished that day. The reasons why I need to push forward and succeed in my daily rituals. I think to myself what a glorious day it is. What a marvelous thing it was for my savior to give me another day to grow and learn and teach. I think to myself I am lucky. I am grateful. I am precious. But what about the days when I wake up and I do not have the confidence I have as a black women to push through my day. The worries. The suffering. The pain. All hitting me at once. But then I sit back and think to myself. I think about all the positive and nice things our world has given us. That god has given us. The pride and courage and love and sacrifice that we have living in us and amoung us. I think to myself I am beautiful charming lovable voluptuous and rich. The very words I used to read everyday in various poems and books and newspapers. Why I strive to be what I want not what I am told. Because of this that is why our bodies are the poems and words or life. That is why we need them and we need to embrace them. Why poetry is the life in life and why we don't need anything or anybody to tell us otherwise.
