The Book of Life

She sits and tries to write her story

The page is blank

It’s a clean slate

There was no better way to explain her new start

It was a new book to begin

She has 365 days to write a new story

She chose to give up the book full of pain and agony

Now she will find a new reason everyday to smile

She won’t wear dark clothes or do dark things

That was her past story and this is not a sequel

She doesn’t sit in silence in her room

That only brings things up again

She knows now what causes the pain

She knows what and who to steer clear from

Her story will not end in the middle of a sentence

She will make it far longer than she ever thought possible

The things she used to do are in the rearview mirror

She never has to look back

Her story is full of hundreds of blank pages just waiting to be filled

She may not smile every second of everyday

She may not laugh on cue

She may not even say a word but there is so much progress

If you met her last year you would see a whole other person in front of you now

Her book has changed, her story brighter

Her past doesn’t make her weak

It makes her story stronger

But now she’s different and will never be the same

So if you see her smile falter and she starts to look at the floor

Make her laugh or just say hello because maybe that girl you see in the halls

Maybe that girl on the street

She might not be who she appears
