Books

I love books because they let me escape
They show the perspective of another
I can be a hero that wears a cape
Or a king with a traitorous brother

Without them, all I'd have is solitude
Because everything else is off and on
Why does it feel like I only intrude?
By the time I'm here, everyone is gone

A boat with no sail out in the deep sea
One day you are green, the next you are black
Why can't I be like people around me?
I have no cement to fill in this crack

Though books are always there when I need them
Helping to forget painful memories
Push my emotions away from the brim
And give me a little more energy

I'm a High school senior that loves poetry and the way poetry can alter perspectives. I write more than just poetry and the poems posted by me on this forum differ based on the emotion being expressed while writing the piece.
