Books: My Best Friends

I felt so lost.

I had no friends.

I felt like my time

Would never end.

All through the days,

I would wander around.

With nothing to do

And no happiness to be found.

And then I found you,

My dear friends,

Caught in the pages

In between bookends.

You showed me a world

Where it was safe to be me.

You offered me protection.

You set me free.

You were there

When everyone left.

You were always by my side.

You were always in my head.

You taught me that emotions

Are a beautiful thing.

You taught me to feel.

You taught me to sing.

When I am down

Or need some laughter.

You're always there,

Even under the covers.

I don't know who I would be

If it wasn't for you.

You've saved my life,

I want to do the same for you.

No one realizes

What a savior books are,

Until they open one,

And let it take them far.

Far away

From their troubles and strife

Far away

From this world we call life.

Away to a place

That only books know.

Where love is forever

And dreams can still grow.

My dear friends, I must thank you.

For sharing all that you know.

And letting me see my own beauty

Even when I'm alone.
