Books (Worth It)

There were so many books on the floor
Nuzzled in the corner
Piled in stacks
Next to note books and pens

He sat cross-legged surrounded
By his mini-towers and sighed
Picked a pen up
His eyes boring holes on the blank page in front of him

He looked at the first book
And sighed again
Losing faith already
In his complicated quest

There were so many books
And so many words
And he couldn't read any of them

I can't do this
He thinks

He puts the book back down
And the notebook
And pulls himself off the floor

But then he looks back at the stacks
And thinks

About her
And her smile
And him being able to say привет
And that made it seem worth it

He picked up a book
And got to work
On how to greet people
And how to describe people
And he thought of saying ты красивая
And that made him smile

He went through it slowly
And strained his brain to the limit
So many words
So many phrases
It got exhausting

It seemed to him
To take forever
Like he'd never be able to say a word
Sometimes he thought of giving up
But then he'd think of telling her я тебя люблю
And that definitely made it seem worth it
