Born In the Wrong Sea

Choking on firewater,

you’ve been drowning for so long

you can’t taste it anymore.

The words aren’t enough

you’re a drop in the ocean

acid rain and coated lead

sinking to the bottom

before you know the bottle.

Well darling this one’s for the kids who can’t see straight

out of their drivers’ windows.

Well darling this one’s for the kids who can’t hear right

the screams of those they left behind.

Darling this one’s for the guys who killed more themselves

with the liquid glass, literal cuts.

Darling this one’s for the babies who never had a chance

born in the wrong sea.

Five fingers of apology and maybe

you’re too drunk for it to mean anything.

Maybe it’s the only time it ever has.

The words aren’t enough

you’re a drop in the ocean

acid rain and coated lead

sinking to the bottom

before you know the battle.

Well darling this one’s for the kids who have seen it all

outlasting the pain you couldn’t.

Well darling this one’s for the kids who’ve heard it

the excuses for the blood they never wanted.

Darling this one’s for the guys who’d rather die than stand up

under the weight of your eyes

Darling this one’s for the babies who never had a chance

born in the wrong sea.

The words aren’t enough

you’re a drop in the ocean

acid rain and coated lead

sinking to the bottom

before you know the bottle.
