The Bottom Line

We’ll sell our souls in a minute,
When once we just forgot,
That kids and pets are perfect,
And the rest of us are not.

In the lives we lead, we may concede,
That duty calls us all.
It’s not so clear, it’s just our fear,
Allowing us to fall.

Where do we stand, throughout the land,
In business when we say,
That we live and die by the bottom line,
And not a better way?

Is it just our fear of failing,
That drives our need to act?
Or, could we say, there’s a better way
For the company in fact?

A value lost at such a cost,
When fear gets in the way,
May not be seen when in between,
Value slips away.

Let’s be clear, it’s not our fear
Of truth, that gives us grief,
We hesitate to fight the greed,
And not our disbelief.

From little guys to leaders,
We’re all made just the same,
The truth we see in the bottom line,
Will keep us in the game.

For that indeed is what we need,
When once we just forgot,
That kids and pets are perfect
And the rest of us are not.
