The Box
There's a box everyone is given
From the moment somebody's born to the moment he dies
In that box he is commanded to fit in
It's a box with walls made of magazine photos and "self-improvement" guides
Articles telling your ferocious heart your life is wrong
The box has a lid of telvions shows
That tell your infinite soul you are nothing more than your face
The box is made of limited expectations
That only ask you to go so far and won't allow you to stretch farther
But I refuse to be fed the box's lies
I will not be defined by the box
I will not swallow it's poison under the guise of "advice"
I am beyond it's definitions of "beauty"
I am myself, I will not compromise
I am as infinite as the universe
And even deeper than the seas
There's is definition the box can give me
I am defined by the wrinkles from smiles around my eyes
And the knowing smile of a woman who has lived her life
The box says I am nothing but the size of my thighs
But I am more than that!
I am defined by my inner qualities
The box will not define me
