The Box

I open the box and what do I see?

She is staring back at me.

Oh, how her absence is making me sad.

How her name echoes in my head every night.

I'll always miss you no matter what they say.

I close the box.

I open the box.

And her shell necklaces are falling apart.

They make me think of all

the fun times we spent

together at the beach.

How I wish I could be there

running in the sand,

with the sand squished

between my toes,

and seeing her smile.

I close the box.

I open the box.

The shells of the necklaces

are scattered everywhere;

the box had begun to rust.

The picture of her has crumbled

like a dying flower.

How I wish I had more of her things,

in my box where I can never

miss her grin or wonderful personality.

Now I wait for my day to come

where I can see her again.

I close the box.
