A Box in The Closet

We were once the light of each other's world, The rising sun in another's dark hour, the hope and guidance that kept each other moving, but now we're just a box in the closet. Remember those long conversations in which we let one another under our skin, released dark secrets and shared the unknown shadows of our past? We allowed ourselves to become closer than any other. All that's left of that are notes shoved away in a closet. All those nights spent looking up at the star covered canvas as you held me in your arms smiling, laughing and singing like time had frozen and the moment would never end, has become memories shoved into the back of our heads that we refuse to look at and are reluctant to let go of. Those days we spent enjoying the summer and going wherever the day led us, the times we drove around and parked somewhere to talk about the future we feared, about true beauty and meanings of life, followed by jokes, kisses, and funny faces has become photographs in a closet. The optimistic outlook towards our future, holding each other tight knowing the sun will soon set as the last specks of sand in the hourglass finally began to fall, the promises that those 267 miles would not tear us apart, promises thast we"d always be there and promises that the sun would rise again have all become broken and the pieces were placed in a box in the closet.
