Box of Life

The question arises, "if you were on a deserted island what would you take?"

Would it be something you claim is special or someone you consider great.

If I were on a deserted island whats the one thing I would want in my possesion?

It's simple, the shoe box under my bed contianing every life lesson,

One may question how much can an old Michael Jordan shoe box possibly mean,

Little does one know that the answer to that question... is that it means everything.

This box contains all of my awards from my high school and current college life,

All the different times I was acknowledged and awarded for doing things right,

This box also contains reminders of all the different times I failed,

Reminders of the countless times in life when I couldn't prevail,

And those constant reminders of those failures are the life lessons that set me up for success,

The motivation that enabled me to have a competitive advantage over everyone else,

However,  the most important thing in this box is what still remains,

A photo album with a few hundred picutures and the memories it contains,

All the images and reminders of my family and friends,

All these memories that I'll never forget until the very end,

Pictures of my child hood, my family, and the family dog,

Images that will show me that despite the circumstances life does go on,

All the pictures that unlike Tom Hanks in Cast Away, would help me keep my sanity,

And despite being alone, these photos and memories would make me feel like a part of hummanity,

So if I were stranded on a deserted island that shoe box is the one thing I would bring,

A box of life, and a reminder of who I used to be.
