The Boy-Friend

Accepted as family Though no common blood was shared A bond of friendship among the generations His granny, her adopted granny The inevitable was to come Fall in love and not know why Blinded by friendship The obvious did not occur to her She had to be told What a shame Flirts went on for months The boy-friend became the boyfriend Friendship was the key The key to love’s destruction She held grudges for every girl in between His birthday came near And both had no one to call their own She asked, he thought She gave up, he said yes One summer The summer of her dreams Was left with a broken heart His apologies only made everything worse She should have listened to those that thought she was better off But forget the best summer of her life That she couldn’t do She wouldn’t let this ruin a perfect friendship They talked, she almost forgave Pangs of sorrow still invade her mind All they’ve been through should have torn them apart But instead the pieces of them fit closer together Better friends than ever Strange new trust Better understanding of each other He gets in her head, she gets in his A bond that changed them greatly The worst hurt she ever had The best memory in a while
