To the Boy I Left Behind

Dear boy I left behind.

The people are nice here. I hope you’re doing fine.

I did a work of art today that brought you to my mind.

And, no, this is not the first time

That I’ve thought of you,

And wondered if you thought of me too.

Is that something you do?

They say that’s moving on; is that true?

Am I a cause of anger or spite?

I know we ended not quite right.

It’d be different if we had had a fight,

Instead of the normal, boring old night.

As usual I had overthought and tried

To reason and find a way to just deny.

But for whatever reason, I just cried and cried.

We were done because we didn’t match

I want to learn and change and grow, and here’s the catch

You weren’t that type, and we just latched

Onto our similar pasts.

The shared experiences and memories.

The foundations that just shook me,

That brought me to my knees,

When I was forced to see.

I apologize for my drawn out change of heart.

Believe me, after three years, it tore me apart.

But when you showed up unannounced and gave me that start

You made it hard to play my part,

And give you the explanation you needed.

All my concerns you never heeded,

Were the reasons meted,

When you no longer heard me and  left my heart beaten.

This is my letter to you, and I wish you the best.

I see you moved on and all the rest.

It’ll be a while before I find my next,

But you can sure as hell bet,

That I am doing good now.

I have hope for a better love now.

My dreams are here now.

And I am moving on NOW.
