A Boy of Ten-And-Four

Your rifles racks

A shell falls

The sounds of desperate battle all around

A boy of ten-and-four

Shakily holds his rifle

Cowering from snipers

A neighbor falls

A lucky shot

Soon repaid with shrapnel

Without thinking

You continue firing

Into a crowd of men

Scared and afraid

Ordered to charge

By generals far away

Your eyes scan for targets

You spot a boy of ten-and-four

Clutching his rifle as he runs

Your eyes meet briefly

His widen

Yours tear up

Your rifles racks

A shell falls

As does the boy

A grenades explodes

A corpse flies

Another boy of ten-and-four dies

Most of my stuff is inspired by some of the very somber anti-war poems written after WW1. Others can be on a whim or based off fictional works.
