The Boy Who I am

We all started from a blank canvas that we didn’t choose to have

Born from the couple who swore off individual life for combined love

In the early years of childhood his outlook on his surroundings were astonishing

Bright eyed little boy with a family that’s more than loving

So everywhere he’d go  he would try to put the best in anything: by any means necessary

The little boy smiled and laughed at everything

Not only at cartoon shows based on fairies

Opened his ears to learning, which led to the illusion of intelligence

Just loved hearing people render their opinions and instill knowledge

Just loved reading about people who instilled knowledge

Every page

Every word

Just loved life

Overtime he started to uncover the sheet placed on top of my life

Sheltered away from the alleged evils in the world he became naturally curious

Curious about why the man on the television screen is shooting a ball into a hoop and why he loves it

Curious about why the music on the radio was so vulgar, magical, upbeat, and why he loves it

Curious about the golden metallic beauty and the sweet majestic sound that emanated out of it

These uncertainties started to grow on him as those majestic sounds take over his life

The more it entices him the more he wants to become the people that made them

Learning how to make these sounds with the smooth woodwind he does

Jazz filled noise resonated in his soul

Little time passes as the little boy grows into just–a boy

Internet enter his life as his passion grows Starts dabbling into digitally producing ditties spiraling into tracks

The music has taken over his existence

Every turn he takes little sounds become fast paced melodies

“Drip Drop” of the faucet becomes “Drip Drip Drop Hippity Hop” the tune

Then came the keyboard his daddy found  A Dusty–Crusty–Musty piece of beauty

All 88 keys working to perfection

Overzealous about the keyboard has caused confusion

Does the boy still love that bright orange ball?

The ball that has an objective

An objective that has to be completed

An objective that has to be completed by him

Unfortunately that objective has not been met

Because time and time again that objective has been interrupted

Interrupted by the tribulations of negative evaluations

The boy was not fast

Nor strong

Nor tall

Nor good at all

Every year the boy cried at the top of his lungs because all the love he had for this objective has shattered into pain

Pain from the thought of failure

From coach to coach

From grade level to grade level he had enough

Practicing became evitable

Every jump shot taken after 12 am

Every beat of sweat hitting the hardwood

Nothing mattered but completing that objective

Matter of fact he got faster

Matter of fact he got stronger

Matter of fact he got taller

Matter of fact he got good

Reasuring himself that this objective will be met

It must be met

And that’s all he has for now

The story of who he is–for now

Because remember it’s only for now

For tomorrow is a new day
