A boy who was not very good with words

There was a boy
who was not very good with words.
He was slow.
Not in the head, but in his reaction
to things that were uttered.
He would often miss his chance
to say what would have mattered.

The boy was not very good with words
or else he would compose
a beautiful prose
that would captivate you,
enthrall you,
stop you in your tracks.

So instead,
he would stop to water the flowers every morning
free from moaning or groaning.
Hoping that when you walk pass,
you would stay for a while
and smile
at the beauty of each blossom.

He had little wealth
and so was rich of compassion
and passion,
or it could be an obsession,
to make others happy.
He chose this as his mission.

But he was not very good with words.
Often missed his chance to deliver the perfect response.
Never knew when it would be right
to relieve you from your plight
or if he even has the rights.

So he left it at that and stuck with what he knew.
He would nurse plants back to health
because he understands life

and death.
And he knows a lot about hope.
That sometimes when you think something is dead,
it is only lacking care.
And with every second and every ounce of love you share
what was dying can sometimes be spared.

He wants you to know this.
And notice
that he was not very good with words
but he was always trying.
He could not express himself even in writing
but that did not stop him for searching
for jokes
for stories
for things you might find amusing

anything that can steer you away from crying.
And by showing you life
he is helping.

He was not very good with words
but he would make sure, when you were around, to listen and to stare.
Because he cares
for your existence and for what you have to say,
for your well-being and how you go about your day.
He would say,
‘thank you’
at the end of each day.

And it would feel wonderful
because he was not very good with words
so he never said much.
But what he said, he meant it as such.
And you would feel touched
by his sincerity.
And thankful for the clarity
brought about by his actions.

There was a boy who was not very good with words.
Pay attention to what he has to say.
