Brain Fart

I sit at my table

A pen in my hand

Ready to write

Something wonderfully grand.

But all of a sudden

My mind just goes empty

“What’s happening?” I ask

“I used to write plenty!”

Yet try as I might

There are no words on my sheet

I sit in despair

Feel the sting of defeat.

Limerick, couplet

Haiku or freestyle

I can’t seem to write

Anything worthwhile.

This poem is due today

And what have I got?

A whole bunch of nothing

That’s really not a lot!

Frantically, I continue

To rack my brain

The lack of topics

Is inhumane.

I’m gonna’ be screwed

If I don’t write this now

Search for inspiration

Who, what, when, how?

“I’ve got it!” I say

“One from the heart!

I shall now write about

My poetic brain fart!”

So I sit at my table

Ten minutes ‘till class

Finished my poem

Finally, at last.
