Breach

Eternal night sticks to my ankles like quicksand

An inky black sky without a horizon,

Wraps my soul with its suffocating embrace.

When the numbers on the scale begin to fall,

And sweet compliments drip from honey lips

Sunshine breaks through momentarily.

Like clockwork, calories counted, calories tracked.

Somewhere in the depths of a mind a voice whispers:

“One more lap, one less bite, one more pound”

All to reach an invisible finish line.

Like a mirage, it tempts near but only to disappear,

Sweet words can only go so far,

With a diseased mind.

Like watering a daisy in the desert.

External validation is no cure

for a night that doesn’t sleep.

“Love thyself”

I find a savior within myself.

Moon meets sun,

Day and night become one.

Homeostasis is reached,

and sunshine begins to breach.
