Breakfast
Milk that gave me a white upper lip
Lips that kissed my cheek goodbye
Lips that tried to mend mistakes
Cream and water separated if left long
The orange juice left me sticky hands
Hands calloused from working
Hands that left me every week
Leftover juice tasted sour instead of sweet
Eggs and bacon made a happy face
The face I missed and saw once a week
Face that I shared my features with
The eggs’ yolk exploded, bacon turned black
Coffee with sugar dance in my nose
Nose that didn’t remember your smell
The sugar got to the bottom of the mug
Leaving the bitter at the surface
The most important meal for the day
A lunch meant for three, only one plate placed
I greeted momma Good Morning on Mondays
Didn’t hear her Good Night until Sundays
