Breaking Barriers

These fickle roads change to the skittish thoughts of whimsical minds. Some abruptly end while others continue on to where there is no end. Through timeless time these roads change beneath my feet as the path that leads me takes me where I need to go. Thoughts ramble on with subsequent alterations of scenery and the path to the end is never seen even though the dreaded end is already foretold. Street corners and intersections give me the life changing choices that can reorder the set way this path takes me. Detours and shortcuts are merely the effects of lost choices, and only the unmeasurable time will tell these paths to set the roads on the right maps of every life. The sky is running away with the sun and moon leaving only trickery street signs to display their misleading messages. While one tells me to turn my journey right, it also tells me to leave the spot upside down and run amongst the ill-moving clouds. Clouds that would envelop me, confuse me, and set me astray from where I wish to be. Another tells me to move forward at fast paces, but at the same time to stay back, wait, and watch for ice that may make me fall. Ice of cold hearted beings that will do anything to burn the map and directions of my life. Beings that will set me back, make me afraid, and try and make me fail, or make me too afraid of failing that I stumble upon any achievement that I earn. I know my feet are no longer aware of where they are going when the only patterns found in my life are the number of steps that fall between each crack on the sidewalk. I worry about every next step I take, but at the same time I can't help but look back and wonder where I would be now if the path I chose went astray from the one that I decided to take. I can't decide which is the most important, what ifs, should have beens, or could bes? Honestly, all of them lay as imprints in the cement of these four walls that surround me, telling me to look the others over. But where would dreamers be without the what ifs? Where would ponderers be without the should have beens? Where would the hopeful be without the could bes? These cement walls surrounding me disintegrate into piles of ash and the floor opens up into the indiscoverable colors of the sky, and I'm falling. Falling through clouds, through sun and rain, through wind and snow. No, its not snow. It is falling ash of the barriers that have always held me back. They form themselves into a white path below me before I even realize that I'm no longer falling. I'm laying, quite still. Stopped cold on this spot of the sidewalk that breaks off into incalculable numbers. Paths of different lives that lay themselves out before me, for me, letting me choose and discover which is the way I should go. But why have I stopped here in this familiar scene? In this place that I have dwelled in far too long far too many times. Surrounding me is every comfort ever found on this seemingly endless journey, every tree, every rock, and every piece of grass is one that I have found and seen before. In front of me lays a colorless abyss. A future to be dreamed of but never to be quite comprehended until it is time to be. Atoms of the unknown await me, ready to form to the memories that have not been made. Slowly, a stand is taken and I move forward, away from the vibrant colors and false calls of the past. Where I'm headed now, there are no cracks in the sidewalks, no swindling squares of so called signs, no clouds, no confused beings stumbling to mysterious destinies while trying to drag me along. No, not one thing that I don't want to be there. From now I plan to follow my path directly to the end with the way it's supposed to be, and I don't intend on letting the transgressions of faithless hoarders stop me as I choose to achieve the things that truly will leave signs, marks, and engravings on this so-called map of life.
