Breaking Free

I am the small voice that fades into the background,

I am the cowardly dog who puts down their head,

I am the thought that never gets to be expound,

I am the skin a reptile needs to shed,

There is a yearning that bubbles inside,

A repertoire of knowledge that constantly hungers for more,

A hunger I was able to abide,

But as the years drag on it has decomposed my core,

No longer will I be the meager seed,

No longer will fear act as the puppet-master,

The cramped nest of mine I thought I need,

Acted as plaster,

There is a world out there breeding lessons to learn,

Spreading my wings to embark on a journey bestows a joyous burn
