The Breakup Poem

Because I planted gardens with flowers that never grew
And smoked the same cigarettes that I used to smoke with you.

I took a hot shower to wash you away,
And turned the lights on and off to imagine passing days.

Now I leave to go window shopping alone
And I no longer bother to answer the phone.

I wrap myself in blankets and then I watch the moon,
I'll drink coffee at midnight and fall asleep at noon.

I listen to your voicemails and sometimes go up to your door
Just so you'll remind me that you don't love me anymore.

So maybe if I'm lucky I will get some sleep tonight,
And if I'm luckier- I'll be alright.
