A Breath
We inhale and exhale without ever a second thought,
Always ignoring the gift of breath for which evolution has fought.
We know we’re alive because our chests rise with incoming air,
But thank our lungs for vitality and strength - we’d never dare.
The tiny oxygen atoms of an inhale cling to drops of our blood,
And in milliseconds, they join the body’s liquid streaming system flood.
Embarking on a mission to invigorate and sustain,
They saturate and quench our being with tidal waves from each and every vein.
Deceiving gravity, the blood also miraculously flows up to our minds,
Feeding thoughts, hopes, emotions, and memories of all kinds.
Dedicated to bathing our intellect with brand new gaseous imagination,
The oxygen inspires our brains to launch new exploration.
Our bodies are extraordinary collections of cells which crave and deserve O2 sweetness.
They need air for movement to be graceful, speech to be smooth, and thought to be genius.
Essentially, drinking in oxygen is the critical difference between life and death,
So treat yourself and take a deliciously deep breath.
