A Breath Away

You leaned in

And I felt your breathing

on my lips.

Each sigh,

Full of the intoxicating aroma

of the life in you.

You lay but

A breath away now

Yet neither of us move any closer

Are we afraid

of what this could do to us?

Do we fear we'll become

love's victimes?

So here we stay

A breath away

As if frozen in time.

I'm lost in your eyes

And you stare back

I wonder what it is

You're thinking.

Are my breaths just as distracting

to you?

Are you imagining

The intimacy we could share?

To think,

All of this is just

A single breath away
