Breathe

Breathe.
A new face, a new day
Someone different
A different landscape
A thought
An epiphany, of sorts.
A door you’ve never seen before opens
A new world
Excitement
Giddiness you thought was only for fairytales
Breathe
The thin mask comes off
No more lying to yourself
No long invincible
No longer untouchable.
Breathe
Unfortunately
Realization hits---
While soft and new
This new sensation and person
Is too fragile
Breathe
Caution becomes a constant companion
And worry is something you aren’t quite used to.
But the temptation
To see behind the other’s mask
To see the real person
Is too much to resist
Breathe
So you allow yourself to be fragile and exposed
And maybe
Someday
Hopefully
It will grow a little bit stronger
A little more confident
