Breathe
I have survived
The time in my life
Where identity confusion and definition
Collide
Where intoxicating and sobering moments
Crash
Where heart and mind
Combat
Where childhood and adulthood
Conflict.
I have survived
The time in my life
When I felt the pain in my heart
Grow so much that I was about to burst,
And no one knew.
I have survived
The time in my life
When I struggled between the worth of life,
My life,
Thinking eternal sleep was just easier.
I have survived
The time in my life
When I had to create a path
Of my own
In a place where straying too far
Meant not exploration
but a walk in the wrong direction.
Dup-dup, dup-dup,
I have survived.
Dup-dup, dup-dup,
And yet I tremble.
Dup-dup, dup-dup,
It is my heart.
Dup-dup, dup-dup,
Telling me
I have not only survived, but
I am alive.
