Breathe

My limbs move on their own

they feel as if they are on auto pilot

I know not where I am headed

as long as it is away from here.

My eyes are closed, yet they are open

I need not use vision to see the happenings across the hallway

The images dance around my brain

haunting my childhood innocence.

I run and run and run,

until I can no longer breathe

this is my escape from reality

this is what it takes to silence the screams.

Out of the darkness a figure lights up the sky

I am lifted into the stars

my legs can no longer run

I can hear the thud of my heartbeat once more.

The noises become mute

my eyelids no longer heavy

I am awoken from this nightmare

I can breathe again.
