Breathe In


hope is the thing with

feathers but all there is,

surrounding you are

scales and

claws.

matted fur as you

run for your life

from the serpent in

the garden.

after a marathon of

marathons

you stop, realizing

that scales aren’t

out to get

you

and that birds have talons too.
