The Bridge

Oh, where are you from, you sad slouching man?

Oh, where are you from, with you ring in hand?

I am sorry child, this ring is not mine.

It shall be the river's, gleam fading with time.

I hope my love knows every mote of gold

Is for her.

Oh, where are you from, dying iron doe?

Oh, where are you from, holding long ago?

Why does my heart run, as still as a storm.

Old man, I am cold, love left me forlorn.

Is it not my fault? What's living without

My daughter.

Oh, where are you from, sneering, snide goblin?

Oh, where are you from, screaming she's fallen?

How could she give up and watch her gift burn!

Selfish in weakness that she did not earn!

Does her majesty know her tragedies?

It's uninspired.

The bridge pulls me farther, legs not tired.

My thoughts like a legion, misty vision.

People tell me to wait, but I know.

Oh, where are you from, girl with the calm air?

Oh, where are you from, with your knowing stare?

I replaced some gears, when it was needed.

Why stick around just to be repeated?

I soar off the pavers into the river,

Sinking like a skipping stone.
