Bright Lights
You say I
mumble.
You say I speak in
candlelight rather than
bonfires, that my
voice needs to
burn just a little
brighter if I ever want people to
see it
glow,
you say I´m
embers
when I should be an
inferno.
But maybe I don´t want to be
seen,
maybe my eyes are always
burning,
maybe my chest is always
burning,
maybe I already feel like I´m on
fire and the
last thing I want to do is open my mouth because
maybe keeping it all behind my
teeth is the only way to keep it
contained;
maybe I don´t want my voice to be
raging because the
crackling of the
flames in my
head are
constant and
incessant and
absolutely deafening,
I think my head could combust, and
maybe that would be
fine with me because
maybe all I want is
silence.
You say I mumble because I´m
shy; really, I just
can´t take another
sound, my head is already
pounding, my heart is
pounding, my eardrums won´t stop
pounding, I wish it would all just
stop, please just
stop
saying I
mumble.
I know.
