A Bright Summer's Day
It was a bright summer’s day
When she told me
That she had to go away.
Her words filled me with dismay,
When she told me that soon she’d be free;
It was a bright summer’s day.
Back then, I was bright and gay,
Unaware that she wanted to flee,
That she had to go away.
And here I am today,
Still wondering what it was I could not see;
It was a bright summer’s day.
To this day, I still wonder what could have made her stay
And what it was that did, to her, guarantee
That she had to go away
If I saw her again, I do not know what could convey
That I now understand and may perhaps agree;
It was a bright summer’s day,
That she had to go away.
