Bring Me Back To April
Hello fellow friend, do come sit
For I have something to admit
My soul feels weak in this gray soil
Which by war has been spoiled.
Only sick and sorrow do I see
A place where peace can never be.
You see, I come from a small town
With cozy houses all painted brown.
And from this rural setting did I
Find a girl that caught my eye.
Here, do please take a look
At her picture that I took
While we walked ourselves through a meadow
And slowly our vision gave away to yellow.
Since our departure, I wrote to her each day
And she wrote back without much delay.
Although my memory is a blur,
Her handwriting is as beautiful as her.
We talk about when we can meet
To celebrate a love that time can't beat.
In her last letter, she gave me a clue:
"Just like you, I'll be wearing navy blue."
It's sad to know that she fell ill.
Her last letter is from April,
A month that shares her graceful name
But that's dying like a flame.
Months have past with no reply,
And I can only hold my cry.
Thank you for listening to my story
For I have barely any more life or glory.
I now warn you, dear boy,
Do not choose war over joy.
Before the next battle, you must depart
Back to from whom you had to part.
Don't take part in this political play,
And always remember to seize the day.
