Broken
Dreams of long ago crushed by a powerful fist,
Plans for a hopeful future instantly turn to mist.
Tears fill my eyes as my life tumbles into the sea,
Uprooted and tossed before given a chance to breath.
Tied to the ground and bound by chains,
I wish it was that easy to just start over again.
Let me prove myself, please make me reborn,
Once held beliefs are now shredded and torn.
Respected by many and yet rejected by all,
Standing in empty rooms; surrounded by caving walls.
This lonely cry of hope is now one of despair,
Counting endless mistakes and splitting hearts and hairs.
My strength is dwindling – where has it now gone?
Remembering the façade that I daily put on.
Silently trying to hide battle wounds and scars,
Shutting people out and always staying on guard.
Each night I lie down and try my best to forget,
The emptiness within filling deep with regret.
Look closely now – come see the grief in my eyes,
See all the deception – the pain, and the lies.
It’s too late to turn back and I now have no fear,
The lights have gone black – my time is now near.
I drift off and ponder what the future might hold,
Close my eyes one last time and break free of my mold.
